Frequently Asked Question - FAQ  # 1

Question #1

Tell me more about your "Personal Finance QVE Accounting System."   What does QVE stand for?

        Answer:

QVE is another one of those acronyms found on this web site. It stands for Q>uite V>irtual E>nvelopes and is basically a Personal Finance Computer Accounting Software System utilizing existing personal finance software that emphasizes placement of money into pre-determined Virtual Envelopes.  Since your spending is limited to what is in these Virtual Envelopes, you have the means to control your spending.  Or QVE is an alternative to the usual budget. Go to  4063  for a dialog with a BLVR on this overall topic.
Please also be aware of what we call BUDGET BOXES that function much like this.  As you will discover when you read the link contents of  4201  the BLVR receives  Online assistance  from HOMERs as they carry out their carry out their Righteous Personal Finance  objectives, etc.

F A Q  # 2

Question #2

This dialog seems to be placed within context of what you call Righteous Personal Finance and seems to be designed only along those lines. Who can use it?

            Answer:

This QVE system was established to primarily assist  the BLVR  toward RPFin, but it is, of course, available to anyone. Please go to  4002   for more of our perspective re this effort.

F A Q  # 3

Question #3

With this background, now please be more specific about the QVE System.

             Answer:

OK, please go to   4077  and read about our 1995 Olden Days memo where cash is placed into pre-determined spending groups via something like an envelope.  You then use the cash within each envelope.  If no cash within named envelope, no can spend, etc.

F A Q  # 4

Questions #4

Very interesting  ..... so you have applied these same Envelope features within QVE since we place our money in the Bank and spend via checks or Credit Cards, etc.?

                Answer:

That is correct. The QVE system centers around the use of the Computer and inexpensive older versions or QuickBooks, or the well known software known as QUICKEN, but the QVE features can be used within most any known personal finance software. Plus you do  NOT need a current version of QUICKEN as the QVE system does NOT need all of the "bells and whistles" found in the current versions.
This software is designed with "Bank, Credit Cards and Virtual Envelopes" features as you ultimately use your Bank Deposits for certain pre-determined purposes. And like the Cash method above, you spend your money in relation to the remaining balance within these "Virtual Envelopes."  See possible "Virtual Envelope" samples below:

  • Tithes and Offerings
  • Mortgage/Rent
  • Debt Retirement
  • General Household Needs
  • Vehicle Payments/Operations
  • SetASide for later this year - Vacation
  • Retirement
  • Named, as agreed

The QVE procedure combines the familiar check-stub method (after making a deposit and/or writing a check I have this much remaining in the Bank) with a program that enables you to stay within your predetermined spending boundaries as provided via these "Virtual Envelopes".

F A Q  # 5

Question #5

What are the QVE reports and what do they look like?

                 Answer:

Well, let me share the following:

A> Check Stub - - -

QUICKEN calls the Bank Account activity a 'Register', but fundamentally it shows the check stub equivalent of deposits made and checks written with the running balance in the Bank. You
QVE code these deposits and checks which allows QUICKEN to automatically post this information and provide you immediately with the balance/activity within each "Virtual Envelope."

B>  Credit Cards or Plastic - - -
At least weekly, you enter your QVE coded Plastic purchases and charge them to the respective "Virtual Envelopes."  At the same time you increase the amount you owe on your PlasticPlease go to  4040  for more information about your use of  Plastic or Credit Cards.

C>  QVE Photo or Status Report - - - -
The QVE system can provide you at any time with a report that looks something like the following; this is a Status Report at a point in time (or Photo) after, for instance,  the deposit of a periodic paycheck and some purchases that took place at that time:

Bank Balance

$2,400.00

Green stuff in your possession

$ 100.00

F A Q  # 6

                Question #6

Did I pick up that you expect to provide QVE assistance to BLVRs  via the Internet?

                             Answer:

It seems that the "remoteness" of the Online culture actually helps  BLVRs to work on such matters of life. Some prefer to work with a credible person Online and never really meet them face-to-face. As you know, our personal finances are  VERY confidential, and it is often a 'little' embarrassing to acknowledge deficiencies in this area of our lives and then get some, what some could perceive as, 'hand holding' assistance.

F A Q  # 7

                Question #7

                   What exact help is provided?

                             Answer:

Please go to  4025  where you will find the detail of a QVE 101 assignment as it might include the exchange of a Sample QVE file as we provide you sample transaction which you post and we review the file enough times until you can determine if it applies to you.  NOTE ---  the initial file exchange contains NONE of the BLVR's personal data ... we use the usual sample generic transactions only.  If the BLVR so desires, the relationship can ultimately involve your personal data under the arrangements specified in the QVE 101 material above.  Go to  4080  for some QVE Tips.
