                     RE:  The "YOUNGERs"  learn from
                                        the
"OLDERs"  re Personal Finances
                                      Originated in October 2004

Maybe you can identify ..... at our Church my wife and I are a part of a Sunday School class (it is called a Flock Group at our Church)  that consists of people who are mostly beyond age 65, or we are "Older" and most of us have been married more than 40 years.   This flock goes by the  name "OVERCOMERS"  since hopefully we have by God's grace done some  'overcoming'  during our life time --  which likely includes what I call  Righteous Personal Finance  matters.

Within that context, and in furtherance of the expressed need at the local Church as spelled out Here,  I hope we all would pursue ways for such "OLDERs" groups to share their financial experiences with "YOUNGERs" groups such as the following:

  •    Young Adults  - who I define as young people in college and/or beginning their careers - as if one of our Grand Children asked us to share such matters with them, etc.

  •    Newly Weds or Young Marrieds  as if our own Grand Child and spouse had asked us over to their place for the purpose of such a discussion.

  •    Other Marrieds   -- especially our Children and/or Grand Children who are willing to share that they have made some Righteous Personal Finance  goofs and they need to change the way they do things.

Possible Topics to cover:

  •    Spending Limit management;  Budgets --  how to cope with our personal tendencies - spend or hoard, etc.

  •    Avoiding "Fight Over Money" situations -- or what are likely money matters that will create marital conflict

  •    Other "His" and "Hers" issues

  •    Record keeping essentials; what to do if both spouses are poor record keepers - some realistic options. Effective handling of Cash, Checks and Plastic.  Paying off Credit Card each week.

  •    Written and agreed spousal duties -  periodic self grades/review, etc.

  •    Applicable use of resources/tools --  like Computers, Internet and Outsiders.  Maybe even something like Facebook etc.

Possible agenized "Interaction Methods" in covering the above Topics:

  •    "OLDERs" perhaps share various topics in writing

  •    Capture Interviews on Video so "YOUNGERs"  can see/hear at any time.  For example ... Pre-marital counseling time.

  •    Periodically have both age groups meet together for interview time - produce a video during this time

  •    Place Video/Publications on Church web site/Internet

  •   Take part in your "Church Online Forum" as to such matters  -- due to privacy matters, consider anonymous user aspects

  •    Two/Three "Older" families share as part of your Church's "Crown Ministry" doings - or such endeavors.
