2061-09 - Self Grades or Exams as of 10-03-09

"EDITED ONLINER DIALOGS - EODs"

TOPIC Self Audits or Exams re Finance matters                                              ORIGINATED:   October 2009

TOPICAL OVERVIEW:   Christ Centered Ministries need to  evaluate their finance matters so that they know about and can correct any deficiencies.  Hopefully, their Auditor-CPA does this periodically and then the Board members independently do the same and they compare their views. etc.  Of course, the overall objective is to make corrections so that they especially do NOT experience such awful things as fraud or stealing, etc.

It seems that  Christ Centered Ministries  -- especially those of us who handle $500,000 or less per annum -- would greatly benefit from what I call Online "Self-Audit" tools as they examine/grade themselves by financial topic?

TO: Onliner: FROM: Jim Bramer,  Retired Auditor-CPA

Absolutely,  the use of such resources listed below will contribute to the correction of staff negligence and/or even any possible stealing that might be taking place.    It seems that I am hearing all too often  about crime via staff members and this could greatly reduce such problems.
Be sure and let me know if you have any comments or questions about
Financial Exam Grade Report  Information by type of Ministry within the  link contents below.

We trust you also find of value the matters covered within the following link contents:

FROM:  Onliner:

Thank you ever so much, Jim.   Any comments about getting such information from our Auditor?
TO:  Onliner:
Yes,  I have maintained for some time that such grades should periodically be incorporated within the results of either an External or even an Internal audit.   Then,  ideally, the Board members would independently answer the same questions and then compare their evaluations to that from these professionals so that all are on the same page.
FROM:  Onliner:

To your knowledge does a relationship with  "Evangelical Council For Accountability (ECFA)" involve obtaining any of these type of grades?

        TO: Onliner:

As your CPA and/or Auditor provides services for ECFA members, they are NOT REQUIRED to provide such evaluations and/or grades.   Perhaps any CPA working with such Ministries for any type of assignment should regularly provide this service from their professional perspective.

FROM:  Onliner:

It sure seems that such tools would greatly help us do the very best job possible.  Thanx again.

As most of you know, at  www.bcidot.org   we dialog by email with Onliners regarding Ministry Finance (MinFin) matters.  Above are what we call "Edited Onliner Dialogs", or edited versions of actual dialogs with some of you;  but we have honored your privacy and not used your name or that of your Ministry.  Our purpose is to make topical MinFin information available to any interested  Ministry Finance Team  so we all can learn from these perspectives.   Thanx - Jim Bramer, Auditor-CPA  - Proverbs  9:10
